A 15-year-old UP-based girl, who is in the fourth year since her blood cancer was detected, was raped by three men at two different spots in a village on the outskirts of Lucknow, reported Hindustan Times.

She told police that the first two men – her neighbour and his friend – offered her a lift home after finding her outside an eatery around 5 pm on 9th December 2017.

“As she is sick, we try not to refuse any of her demands and allowed her to go to the eatery,” HT quoted her father as saying.

Unfortunately, the two men took the teen to a deserted spot, kept her hostage for six hours and raped her.

Thereafter, they dumped her on a road and threatened to kill her if she revealed her ordeal to anyone.

While the girl lay on the road, a motorcyclist stopped and offered to drop her home.

She told him what had happened. He, in turn, took her to a deserted spot to rape her again.

HT quoted a police officer as saying, “[He] took her to another deserted spot, raped her and escaped, leaving her at (sic) the spot.”

Additional Superintendent of Police, Sarvesh Mishra, said that Bijnore outpost police was informed after residents found the girl walking ‘alone around midnight’, stated HT.

An FIR was registered and the motorcyclist, arrested, while the remaining two alleged rapists remain at large.

Zaira Wasim, of Dangal and Secret Superstar fame, had shared her harrowing Delhi-Mumbai in-flight experience on Instagram on 9th December 2017. She claimed to have been molested by a passenger who was seated behind her.

In her various Instagram story updates, she also shared a video of his foot placed all the way in front, that is, on the armrest to Wasim’s left.

“It was all chill till I felt somebody brushing against my back while I was half asleep,” she wrote.

After deboarding, Wasim started an Instagram live on which she stated, “I just landed, the whole irony of this that I yelled… and this is not done… this is not how you should be treated or made to feel… this is terrible. This is how they will take care of girls? No one will help us if we don’t decide to help ourselves and that is the worst thing,” in between sobs.

Moreover, according to one of her text-based stories, the Vistara crew did not help her.

Vistara, in its defence, said, “Crew only became aware of something amiss during the final descent when they were seated for landing.”

Amid trolling from unemployed people online, Wasim received support from leaders.

The Delhi Commission of Women issued a notice to Vistara Airlines on 10th December seeking a report on the matter by 16th December 2017, reported NDTV.

Hindustan Times reported that an FIR was lodged under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and section 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, based on her oral complaint.

A 39-year-old businessman from Mumbai was arrested late on 10th December, stated HT, in relation to the case. He was identified with the help of Wasim’s description and the airline’s assistance.

Further investigation is underway.

Here’s hoping the culprit is arrested and placed on Vistara’s no-fly list. Such behaviour cannot be overlooked or ignored.
